Mesilla Valley SCTP Team competed in the monthly High School / SCTP zone shoot in December. The team started off with skeet at the local Butterfield shooting field on Saturday, in a cold breezy morning. Tyler Smelker led the team with 96 (HOA) with Caleb Delk right behind him with 94 runner up in the state. The team was high point team in skeet for the 3rd straight month with a team total score of 272, Carlsbad, 265, Logan, 252.
On Sunday, the team traveled to Silver City to compete in Trap on a beautiful sunny day. The team was led by Woody Crawford in singles with 98, Kaleb Massey 96, Grady Hodnett, Tyler Smelker, and Ben Crawford all with 91.
Next, it was handicap, the team was led again by Woody Crawfords 96, Kaleb Massey 95, Tyler Smelker 91, and Grady Hodnet 90, and Ben Crawfords 82.
Final event was doubles led by Tyler Smelker, 91, Grady Hodnett, 89, Woody Crawford 86, Kaleb Massey 85, and Miss Taylor Ramirez 77. Great shooting in doubles by the team.
Team competition in trap was highly competitive this month with the MVSS team taking first place with a total trap score of 1345, Carlsbad 1333, Logan 1326, Silver City 124, Aztec 1321. Very impressive consistency of our veteran shooters for the second straight month.
The shooter of the week goes to Taylor Ramirez with her double performance.
Woody Crawford with solid overall performance and HOA runner up with a total combine trap score of 280. He also gained a 1/2 yard in handicap.
Amazing job by the team to sweep both Skeet and Trap as a team for the second straight month.
