Mesilla Valley SCTP / High School Team Update

Mesilla Valley SCTP Team competed in the monthly High School / SCTP zone shoot in November. The team started off with skeet at the local Butterfield shooting field on Saturday. Caleb Delk and Tyler Smelker led the team with 93. Tyler edging Caleb in shootoff to take first overall, and Caleb second overall in the state. Congrats also goes out to Ben Crawford for shooting his first 25 in skeet. Emily Massey removed the dust from her shotgun after playing volleyball the last few months, and took first place in the Ladies division with a 73. MVSS skeet team with Tyler Smelker, Caleb Delk, and Ben Crawford was able to take first place team with a total score of 274, Carlsbad, 264, Logan, 264.

On Sunday, the team traveled to Silver City to compete in Trap on a beautiful sunny day. The team was led by Kaleb Massey in singles with 98, Caleb Delk 94, Grady Hodnett 92, Blake Hagen and Tye Barker 90s. Kaleb Massey was second place overall.

Next, it was handicap, the team was led by Tye Barker, 97, Caleb Delk and Grady Hodnett, 96, Kaleb Massey, 92, and Woody Crawford, 88. Tye Barker won his shootoff against Silver City, with a 24 out of 25. Congrats to Tye for his first 25 and 50 straight. Tye was first place in the state, with Caleb third and Grady fourth.

Final event was doubles led by Caleb Delk, 82, Grady Hodnett, 81, Kaleb Massey 80, Tye Barker 76, and Woody Crawford 76. Great shooting in doubles by the  team.

Team competition in trap was highly competitive this month with the MVSS team taking first place with a total score of 1328, Aztec 1323, and Carlsbad 1304. Very impressive consistency of our veteran shooters, and second year shooters this month. 

Amazing job by the team to sweep both Skeet and Trap as a team.
